Cute ambience, great for a date or smaller parties! The matcha had a citrusy note which I enjoyed. If you love cheesy desserts, the matcha tiramisu has a strong mascarpone flavor. The cream was smooth and light, and complimented the matcha. We also tried the homemade mochi which was stretchy and delicious. The sesame mochi was nutty and not too sweet. I especially loved the dango; the savory soy sauce paired well with the mochi.

Loved this place! Really great for a date - nice ambiance and amazing desserts. Do not confuse this place with the smaller, take-out version a couple doors down (that one doesn't have seating or the full menu). The interior was a little small but very cute. We walked in on a Saturday night with two people around 6/6:15pm and got the last table available. Absolutely loved the desserts. The matcha tiramisu (made with red bean) was maybe one of the best desserts I have ever had. My husband liked the black sesame creme brulee. They also had a nice list of cocktails and teas, but didn't try any this time. Highly recommend!

This place is a MATCHA AND MOCHI HEAVEN. Seriously. I had the premium matcha that has hojicha ice cream, mochi, red bean, and a delicious cookie on top. My goodness. The matcha is a ceremonial grade one that feels bright and energizing and the ice cream ahhhh mazing. I wanted to buy one of everything. Super exciting and delicious.

Food 4/5 Service 4.5/5 Ambience 4/5 Delightful quaint place for Afternoon Tea. Be careful of the steep narrow staircase from ground to the 2nd floor to get to the Afternoon Tea. I was extremely excited for the matcha desserts mentioned by other reviews. The website showed a spring menu with a strawberry theme. As we attended late May, I did not know it would be the strawberry themed menu for our tea. Presentation of the desserts is very pretty and delicate. I enjoy desserts and personally, I would have enjoyed another savoury item to complement all the desserts. I thoroughly enjoyed the excellent company which made for a most enjoyable afternoon. We left when the server told us they were closing. We were the last table to leave. Great place for a date or a special occasion. Very pricey though!

My days are finally slower in the summer, allowing me more time to visit and enjoy my favorite NYC place, Cha An. I'd characterize it as a dessert place. I love any desserts of theirs with matcha ice cream in it. Very inspiring design on the presentation itself. All tea ingredients are real! So be mindful if you are sensitive to caffeine. Service is great. Staff would constantly check on you. Good for small group / dating/ or just me myself enjoying some gorgeous dessert.

If you want matcha, definitely try Cha-An. While they do sell savory meals, they're known for their green teas and matcha desserts. I'd recommend trying the matcha tiramisu. It's incredibly light, with a thin layer of matcha powder, then creamy custard, and lastly, a red bean bottom. Not especially traditional (there's no coffee flavor at all), but it's not too sweet and it pairs perfectly with a pot of hojicha (roasted green tea). Speaking of which, each pot fills about 4 cups, with one extra free refill. It's perfect for a date night place, although they're quite strict with their closing times (we got kicked out right at 9pm). Also, it's a little hard to get in and out, since the staircase to the entrance is steep and can only fit one person at a time (meaning if there's people entering or exiting, you'll need to back up). There's also no waiting area either. Personally, it's not my cup of tea (no pun intended). It's a bit too pricey for what it is, though I respect the craft and quality of the products. However, I have no problem recommend it.

This dessert spot is a cute little spot in the East Village. It's welcoming, the staff is friendly and helps when you need suggestions. They also bring the dessert promptly. I got the Matcha tiramisu and the Premium matcha latte since they look pretty popular. The matcha tiramisu was slightly bitter but the red bean in it made it less bitter. I preferred the premium matcha latte which was sweeter and creamier. There's a wafer cookie on the side which was a nice bite. Overall a pretty nice experience. A bit expensive but it is matcha so it is justified!
